The pirate airship the Randy Roustabout is infamous in Reistuis as a predator of merchants of both the sky and water. Their reputation of unyielding harshness when it comes to slavers is whispered by all sailors. No quarter is ever given to slavers by the captain of the Randy Roustabout, Jemma Sweet. A freed slave herself, she and her crew have taken to piracy as a means to strike back against those who trade in the freedom of others. When Captain Sweet and her crew take a sea going merchant, she expects a good payday for their efforts. Instead, they find the hold filed with slaves being sent to market. Freeing the slaves and sinking the ship the Roustabout’s crew are ready to continue plying their trade hunting ships. However, several of the freed slaves ask to be taken to the home they were taken from in exchange for all the treasure the crew can haul. Though a gamble far out into the open ocean, Captain Sweet decides it’s worth the risk. The owner of the slave ship Captain Sweet takes, Amadi Benoit, is not a forgiving man. He recruits a man-ó-war filled with religious zealots to help him hunt down the pirate ship that cost him his ship and all of its cargo. Captain Sweet and her crew find themselves beset by raging storms, fantastic beasts, and the murderous ire of those who pursue them. Through it all, as they continued to burn through their magic lift, Captain Sweet is forced to ask herself if she chose the correct coarse or if she was actually on a fool’s errand.
