The Factory is the story of Pat Duncan, a former English Lit student who, twenty years prior, became the leader of last remnants of humanity after a pandemic turned most of humanity into mutations, savage shadows of their human ancestors. Pat leads them to a factory to make their last stand.

The normalcy of their lives is a stark contrast from the long past civilized world, but that can be undone.  The arrival of Nine, a beautiful and brutalized girl, shakes the inhabitants of the factory by proving they are not the last of mankind. After welcoming her in and hearing her story, Pat discovers he has sent his best scavengers into the very heart of the barbaric people whom Nine has just escaped. All of these pressures drive Pat to find escape in the bottle, even while murders within their walls suddenly jolt the factory.
